Overcoming My Own Struggles with Spirituality
I’ve personally struggled to talk openly about religion and spirituality, especially in my professional life. Living in California and working with younger clients, I’ve noticed that many people are spiritual in their own ways but not in a traditional sense. For years, I was hesitant to share how my spiritual practices have contributed to my success because I feared skepticism or judgment. However, I realized that these practices have been crucial for me and could be incredibly helpful for others—even those who don’t follow a specific religion.
So, for anyone reading this who might feel skeptical or unsure about the role of spirituality, I encourage you to approach this section with an open mind. Spirituality doesn’t have to mean adhering to any one belief system; it can simply be about connecting with your higher purpose, whatever that may look like for you.
Let’s first take a moment to reflect on the traits that resonate with you and the person you aspire to become. This worksheet will help you identify key traits and align them with your spiritual journey.
“Everyone must leave something behind when he dies,” my grandfather said. “A child or a book or a painting or a house or a wall built or a pair of shoes made. Or a garden planted. Something your hand touched some way so your soul has somewhere to go when you die, and when people look at that tree or that flower you planted, you’re there. It doesn’t matter what you do,” he said, “so long as you change something from the way it was before you touched it into something that’s like you after you take your hands away. The difference between the man who just cuts lawns and a real gardener is in the touching,” he said. “The lawn-cutter might just as well not have been there at all; the gardener will be there a lifetime.”
– Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451

Overcoming My Own Struggles with Spirituality
For me, it began with prayer. I prayed to God and angels for guidance, support, and the strength to achieve my goals. I also incorporated meditation and the Law of Attraction, which transformed my mindset and helped me stay focused on my purpose. These practices taught me to open myself to opportunities and to ask powerful questions like, “How can I stay on my solution path?” whenever I faced negativity or setbacks.
Here’s a simple example of one of my prayers:
“Thank you so much, angels and God, for the gift of life you’ve given me. I’m so grateful for my family, my health, and the opportunities I have. Please guide me to bring more success into my life and to help others in meaningful ways. Help me align my work with my passion and empower me to become the person I’m meant to be.”
This prayer, rooted in gratitude, became the foundation for my spiritual practice. Gratitude helped me shift my perspective and recognize the abundance in my life, which, in turn, attracted more positivity and opportunities.
Understanding the role of spiritual practices in your life starts with defining your purpose. This worksheet will guide you in clarifying your goals and aligning them with your spiritual journey, helping you uncover how spirituality can support your transformation.
“This is the beginning of a new day. God has given me this day to use as I will. I can waste it or use it for good. What I do today is important because I’m exchanging a day of my life for it. When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever, leaving in its place something that I have traded for it. I want it to be gain, not loss; good, not evil; success, not failure, in order that I shall not regret the price I paid for it. May I have sufficient wisdom and courage that this shall be my record for this day.”

The Power of Spirituality
Spirituality is not defined by rigid guidelines or a single path. It is about exploring and embracing practices that feel right for you. Whether it’s gratitude, meditation, affirmations, or visualization, these practices can empower you to connect deeply with your purpose and stay on track to achieve your goals. Let’s break them down:
Gratitude
Gratitude is one of the most powerful tools for transformation. It’s not just a feel-good habit—it’s a mindset shift that changes how you see the world. When you focus on what you have instead of what you lack, you align yourself with abundance.
When I started incorporating gratitude into my daily life, I noticed profound changes. I began each day by listing things I was grateful for, which helped me stay present and grounded.
Start your day by listing three things you’re grateful for. It could be as simple as:
-
The health that allows you to take action.
-
The people who support you.
-
The opportunity to grow and improve every single day.
Gratitude creates a powerful ripple effect. When you’re thankful, you attract more reasons to be thankful.

Meditation: Using Mindfulness to Stay Present and Reduce Stress
Life gets overwhelming. Meditation gives you the clarity and calm to face it head-on. It’s not about “emptying your mind”; it’s about focusing it.
Even five minutes of mindfulness can make a difference. Sit quietly, focus on your breath, and let your thoughts settle. For example, if stress is driving emotional eating, meditation helps you pause, reflect, and make intentional choices instead of reacting impulsively.
Meditation isn’t just relaxing—it’s empowering.
Affirmations: Rewiring Your Mindset with Positive Self-Talk
The words you say to yourself shape your reality. Affirmations help reprogram your mindset, replacing doubt and negativity with confidence and possibility.
Try this: Every morning, say these affirmations out loud:
-
“I am capable of achieving my goals.”
-
“I attract success and abundance into my life.”
-
“I am worthy of the life I desire.”
The more you repeat these truths, the more your mind starts to believe them—and your actions follow.
The Law of Attraction: Aligning Your Energy with Your Goals to Create Opportunities
The Law of Attraction is simple: Like attracts like. When you align your thoughts and emotions with your goals, you attract the people, resources, and opportunities to achieve them.
Picture this: You want to improve your health. Instead of focusing on what you don’t like about yourself, focus on how amazing it will feel to live in alignment with your goals. That energy will guide your decisions and bring you closer to success.
EXAMPLES:
“It’s not enough to have lived. We should be determined to live for something.”
Winston Churchill
“If I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it even if I may not have it at the beginning.”
Mahatma Gandhi
“Believe in your infinite potential. Your only limitations are those you set upon yourself.”
Roy T. Bennett
“It does not matter how long you are spending on the earth, how much money you have gathered, or how much attention you have received. It is the amount of positive vibration you have radiated in life that matters.”
Amit Ray
Visualization: Picturing Your Success to Make It a Reality
Visualization is a powerful tool to manifest your goals. When you vividly imagine your success, you strengthen your belief that it’s possible.
Close your eyes and picture yourself achieving your goal. Feel the emotions, see the details, and let it inspire you. For example, if you’re aiming for weight loss, visualize yourself feeling strong, confident, and energized.
By combining visualization with gratitude, meditation, affirmations, and the Law of Attraction, you create a blueprint for success.
Karma: Understanding the Impact of Your Actions
Karma reminds us that the energy we put into the world shapes what we receive in return. Your actions, words, and intentions create a ripple effect that can bring positivity and opportunity into your life.
By approaching situations with integrity, kindness, and a focus on growth, you attract outcomes that align with your goals. Living with an awareness of karma helps you stay intentional, ensuring that your choices support your purpose.
Prayer: Seeking Strength and Guidance
Prayer is a deeply personal way to connect with your higher purpose. It doesn’t have to follow a specific religious framework—prayer can simply be an expression of gratitude, a request for clarity, or a moment of reflection.
When challenges feel overwhelming, prayer helps you ground yourself and find strength. It’s a way of aligning your intentions with your goals and seeking the guidance to move forward with purpose.
Spirituality & Coaching
The Power of Faith, Spirituality, and Making Your Mark
Spirituality can guide you through life’s most challenging moments. For me, spirituality is deeply personal and has evolved over time. It’s not about rigid beliefs but about aligning with purpose, cultivating gratitude, and fostering resilience.
I’ve seen this firsthand with the people I coach. Their success doesn’t just come from hard work—it stems from connecting their goals with their core values and spiritual practices. When they embrace this deeper connection, they tap into strength they didn’t know they had.
For instance, one of my clients was struggling to balance their fitness journey with the demands of a high-pressure career. They felt lost, burnt out, and unsure of how to move forward. Together, we explored the role of spirituality—not as a solution to all their problems, but as a way to find clarity and purpose. We started simple: daily gratitude, a short prayer for focus, and meditative breathing. Within weeks, they noticed a profound shift. Their stress decreased, their motivation increased, and they began to approach challenges with a sense of calm and confidence.
Making Your Mark
One of the most important questions you can ask yourself is, “What kind of legacy do I want to leave behind?”
For me, my purpose is clear: I want to help others transform their lives, grow as a parent, and be the best coach I can be. But this clarity didn’t come overnight. It came through reflection, mistakes, and staying open to the lessons each day brings.
Here’s how you can start thinking about your mark on the world:
-
Remember Your Purpose you Identified in Chapter 1:
Ask yourself, “What am I working toward? How do I want to be remembered?”
-
Evaluate Your Actions:
Are your daily choices bringing you closer to your goals, or are they holding you back?
-
Live Intentionally:
Each day is an opportunity to align your actions with the legacy you want to create.
When you root your journey in faith, spirituality, or a connection to something greater, you build a foundation that guides you through uncertainty and helps you grow.
Living Each Day with Intention
I carry a powerful reminder with me every day:
“This is the beginning of a new day. God has given me this day to use as I will. I can waste it or use it for good. What I do today is important because I’m exchanging a day of my life for it. When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever. I want it to be gain, not loss; good, not evil; success, not failure. May I have sufficient wisdom and courage that this shall be my record for this day.”
– Unknown
This quote reminds me to approach each day with purpose. It’s not about perfection—it’s about progress and using the time we have to move closer to the life we want to create.

Spirituality isn’t about getting it “right.” It’s about finding what works for you and using it to unlock your potential. Let these practices guide you as you continue on this transformative journey.
Spirituality gives you the tools to ground yourself, align with your purpose, and navigate life’s challenges with resilience and clarity. It’s about creating a strong foundation that supports your growth and amplifies the impact you have on others.
As you deepen your connection to your higher purpose and integrate spiritual practices into your daily life, it’s important to ask yourself: What does success truly mean to you?
Living Each Day with Intention
For me, spirituality has always been personal. Growing up, my parents had very different approaches. My dad followed the rituals and structure of Catholicism, while my mom believed in the power of positivity and the idea that good energy would find its way back to you.
One of the most cherished lessons my mom taught me was the ritual of pausing at fountains to make a wish. She believed in speaking your dreams aloud, sending them out into the universe. It was a simple act, but it carried profound meaning. To this day, I share that tradition with my kids.
These perspectives taught me that spirituality isn’t one-size-fits-all. It’s about finding what resonates with you and using it to stay aligned with your purpose.
Success is one of the most deeply personal journeys we undertake. It looks different for everyone, shaped by our values, goals, and the legacy we want to leave behind. Yet, at its core, success isn’t just about achievements—it’s about creating a life that reflects who we truly are and what matters most.
For me, success is about balance. It’s about building security for my family, spending time on what truly matters, and pursuing a purpose that aligns with my values. Over the years, I’ve come to understand that success isn’t a destination; it’s a combination of deliberate actions, spiritual grounding, and intentional living.
In this section, I’ll guide you through the three key pillars of success—security, time, and purpose. Together, we’ll explore how spirituality and intentionality can help you create a life filled with meaning and impact.
-
SECURITY: Building a Strong Foundation
Success isn’t just about personal achievements—it’s about creating a legacy that supports your loved ones. Security goes beyond financial stability; it includes emotional and spiritual strength.
I once coached a client who had a thriving career but no plan for their family’s future. They were living paycheck to paycheck, despite earning a six-figure salary. Together, we created a strategy to build financial security. They started investing, creating residual income, and setting up a plan that would protect their family if anything happened to them.
But security is also emotional. Are you teaching your children resilience? Are you fostering traditions that will carry them through tough times?
-
TIME: Living Without Regrets
Time is your most precious resource. How you spend it defines your life.
If you had six months left, how would you spend your days? Would you work less and love more? Would you reconnect with family, pursue a passion, or take that trip you’ve been putting off?
One client of mine felt trapped by their routine. They spent their days at the office, their evenings exhausted, and their weekends recovering. Together, we visualized their “ideal week.” They began carving out time for their family and personal growth. It wasn’t easy, but the payoff was immense—they rediscovered their passion for life.
-
PURPOSE: Creating a Legacy That Matters
Success without purpose is hollow. Your purpose is the driving force behind everything you do—it’s the legacy you’re building.
For me, purpose is clear: I want to help others transform their lives, grow as a parent, and leave the world better than I found it. But that clarity didn’t come overnight. It came from reflecting on my actions, learning from my mistakes, and committing to living intentionally.
Purpose doesn’t have to be monumental. It’s found in small, meaningful ways you show up for others: a kind word, a consistent effort, a moment of vulnerability.
Manifestation & Alignment
Manifestation isn’t magic—it’s about aligning your thoughts, energy, and actions with your goals.
I’ve seen clients transform their lives simply by changing their mindset. One client, stuck in a negative cycle, started repeating their goals aloud every morning. At first, it felt awkward, but over time, their confidence grew. They landed their dream job, started building healthier habits, and found a sense of peace they’d never had before.
The Law of Attraction teaches us that like attracts like. If you focus on abundance, positivity, and gratitude, you naturally draw those things into your life. Here’s something I challenge you to spend five minutes in the morning visualizing your success. See it, feel it, and believe it.
Now, Which Ones Resonate With You the Most?
Gratitude
Meditation
Affirmations
Karma
Visualization
Law Of Attraction
Prayer
FINAL ASSESSMENT
Work It Into Your Life
Pick one or two of these to start with, and work them into your daily routine—just like exercising or meal prepping.

-
Karma:
Find one way each day to give back or show kindness—helping a stranger, sharing a kind word, or doing something thoughtful for someone else. The energy you put out always comes back in surprising ways.
-
Prayer:
Take time each day to pray or reflect. Use this moment to ask for guidance, express gratitude, or simply connect with something greater. It’s a great way to find strength and clarity.
Reflect on how you will apply this to your life moving forward. What steps will you take to incorporate these principles and align them with your purpose?
How Will You Apply It To Your Life?
This will become part of your daily practice, just like exercising and meal prepping—an essential step to strengthening your spirit and aligning your actions with your higher purpose.
Final Thoughts: Embracing Your Success Story
Success isn’t a destination; it’s a process. It’s about the legacy you build, the time you spend, and the purpose you pursue.
