NEEDS & OVERVIEW

MISSION STATEMENT AND VISION STATEMENT

Creating a mission statement can provide clarity and a sense of purpose, especially when faced with a problem that needs to be solved. A mission statement is a guiding force that helps you stay focused and motivated towards achieving your goals.

When creating a mission statement, it’s important to consider the following three parts:

Vision

A vision to see what is in store in the future. Your mission statement should have a clear and inspiring vision that aligns with your personal values and goals. This vision will serve as your guiding light and keep you motivated when the going gets tough.

Strategy

We have to look at you as a brand so we can start marketing it in the right way. In order to understand strategy we have to understand where we want to go. Take your purpose and write your strategy. Your mission statement should include a concrete plan of action to achieve your vision. This plan should be broken down into specific goals, timelines, and milestones to ensure that you are making progress towards your mission.

Core Values

Here’s where you can start thinking bigger. You didn’t just make a product or service at random, you most likely were motivated by a set of core values. Core values are deeply ingrained principles that guide a company’s actions. Take HubSpot’s culture code, HEART, for example: Humble, Empathetic, Adaptable, Remarkable, and Transparent. Your mission statement should be a reflection of who you are and what you stand for. Staying true to your beliefs and core values will keep you grounded and ensure that your actions align with your mission.

By following these three parts, you can create a mission statement that will provide you with a clear sense of purpose and guide your actions towards achieving your goals. Remember that creating a mission statement is a process, and it may take some time to develop and refine. But with persistence and dedication, you can create a powerful mission statement that will help you navigate through life’s challenges.

WHAT YOU WILLL NEED

MISSION STATEMENT AND VISION STATEMENT

A personal mission statement defines who you are as a person (or as a team member where you work) and identifies your purpose, whether that’s in the office or simply in life. It explains how you aim to pursue that purpose, and why it matters so much to you.

Author and career coach Dan Miller says a good mission statement should include three things:

Personal mission statements appear straightforward once they have been written. However, creating them requires a lot of effort if they are done well. Therefore, take some time to consider and write down how each of Miller’s three areas pertains to you. As a result, you have an excellent foundation from which to develop your mission statement.

Take a moment to consider your life principles and goals. What motivated you to set these goals? What are the ways in which your goals make you a better person? You should attempt to answer these questions in 50 words or less in your mission statement, so try to get to the heart of who you are and avoid providing unnecessary details. You should not be concerned if your view differs from someone else’s – every statement is unique since no two people are alike.

Here are some tips to help you create a successful personal mission statement:

  • Keep it concise and to the point
  • Use action-oriented language to make it more powerful
  • Make it specific to your values and passions
  • Revisit and revise it periodically to ensure it still resonates with you

You should begin using your mission statement as soon as you have drafted one. Put a copy of the document in your office or home so that you are reminded of it frequently. In order to maintain a positive attitude, you should surround yourself with positive people.

Your personal mission statement should not only guide your daily actions but should also be communicated to others. Spread the word that you will live up to what you wrote! You will be more likely to adhere to your commitment if you are held accountable by those closest to you.

MISSION STATEMENT EXAMPLES

"To be a teacher. And to be known for inspiring my students to be more than they thought they could be."

"I want to have fun on my journey through life and learn from my mistakes."

"To use my gifts of intelligence, charisma, and serial optimism to cultivate the self-worth and net-worth of women around the world."

"To inspire hope, and contribute to health and well-being by providing the best care to every patient through integrated clinical practice, education and research."

"Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope."

"To create content that educates, informs and inspires."

Your personal mission statement is an essential part of your personal and professional development. By defining your purpose, you can add value and productivity to your life. Take the first step today and start creating your own personal mission statement.

DEFINING YOUR MISSION STATEMENT

It is important that the planned activities relate in some way to your personal mission statement. The purpose of a mission statement is to define the actions that you as an individual will take. There is a mantra that corporations follow. Google’s famous mantra for years was “Don’t be evil.” The company strives to live up to a set of organizational and aspirational practices. A corporation has a mantra, while an individual has a mission statement. The mission statement of a person may need to be updated as goals are achieved, items on your bucket list are crossed off, or your priorities change as you go through life.

The purpose of a well-crafted mission statement is to distinguish between what is important and what is insignificant. A properly drafted mission statement does not provide a sense of direction or purpose for the individual as a whole. There is a difference between a mission and a vision. The difference between a mission and a vision is that a mission is something to be accomplished whereas a vision is something to strive for in order to achieve the mission. By creating a mission statement, you can identify the problem, find a solution, create an action, and begin establishing accountability. The purpose of a mission statement is to provide direction, guide your actions, and clarify what your purpose on Earth is.

“Uber is evolving the way the world moves. By seamlessly connecting riders to drivers through our apps, we make cities more accessible, opening up more possibilities for riders and more business for drivers.”

“Our goal when we created Tesla a decade ago was the same as it is today: to accelerate the advent of sustainable transport by bringing compelling mass market electric cars to market as soon as possible.”

“To help bring creative projects to life.”

“To help humanity thrive by enabling all teams to work together effortlessly.”

“To enrich people’s lives with programmes and services that inform, educate and entertain.”

“To deliver information on the people, ideas and technologies changing the world to our community of affluent business decision makers.”

“To be one of the world’s leading producers and providers of entertainment and information, using its portfolio of brands to differentiate its content, services and consumer products.”

As you move forward with your plan, remember to revisit your Mission Statement, Purpose, and Obstacles. Take the time to delve deeper and add more details as you complete each section. Keep in mind who you are, your mission in life, and your passions. And always ask yourself, what are the reasons why you wake up in the morning? Let these guide you towards achieving your goals and living a fulfilling life.
