Welcome to the FitCulture Health Snapshot Series—a space where we dive deep into the health challenges so many of us face, and share real tools, testing, and insight to help you live at your highest level.

Today, we’re talking about something that hits close to home: adrenal health, specifically Addison’s disease and adrenal fatigue. These aren’t just medical terms—they’re lived realities for many, including myself and my wife Sarah.

My Journey with Addison’s Disease

Addison’s disease is a rare autoimmune condition that affects your adrenal glands’ ability to produce vital hormones like cortisol and aldosterone. Before I was diagnosed, I experienced debilitating fatigue, dizziness, and muscle weakness. Doctors told me I was depressed—but deep down, I knew something else was going on.

When I finally received the diagnosis, I was relieved… and frustrated. The traditional medical advice? “Manage your meds and avoid stress.” But that wasn’t enough. I knew I had to build a better system to truly support my body. That led me to research functional medicine, metabolic testing, and strategies that go beyond pills.

Sarah’s Story: The Burnout We Don’t Talk About

While Addison’s is rare, adrenal fatigue (also known as adrenal dysregulation) is widespread—especially among high achievers, caregivers, and driven individuals. Sarah was one of them.

Running businesses, coaching, raising a family—she was doing it all. But eventually, her body hit a wall. The signs were all there:

  • Constant exhaustion

  • Mood swings

  • Brain fog

  • Sleep disturbances

Despite repeated doctor visits, she was told she was “fine.” But she knew her body was off. So we took matters into our own hands—turning to functional testing and lifestyle changes that prioritized rest, recovery, and hormonal balance.

What’s Really Happening When Your Body Is Stuck in Stress Mode

Your adrenal glands are small but powerful. They sit above your kidneys and are part of the HPA axis—your body’s master stress system. When overwhelmed by chronic stress, this system can shift from overdrive (anxious, wired-but-tired) to burnout (total fatigue, mental fog, low motivation).

This is where the confusion begins. Symptoms of adrenal dysregulation often mimic:

  • Depression

  • Thyroid disorders

  • Chronic fatigue syndrome

Unfortunately, conventional medicine doesn’t always acknowledge adrenal fatigue. That’s why data-driven testing is so crucial—and where we’ve seen major breakthroughs in our work.

How We Get Real Answers: The Tests That Changed Everything

Here’s what we use at our FitCulture Fitness Retreat to uncover the real picture of your health:

🧬 Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) Testing

This tells us how many calories your body burns at rest. It’s essential for building the right nutrition plan—and identifying hidden metabolic issues.

🫁 VO₂ Max Testing

We measure how your body uses oxygen during exercise. It helps tailor your workouts to avoid burnout and train smarter—not harder.

💦 Hydrostatic Body Fat Testing

The gold standard in body composition. This test reveals how much fat and lean mass you actually carry, beyond what the scale tells you.

📏 360° Body Scans

A full-body visual map that shows measurements, posture, and muscle balance. It tracks real change you won’t see on a scale.

A Personal Note on Healing

I’ll never forget testing my RMR after my Addison’s diagnosis—400 calories lower than expected. It confirmed what I felt but couldn’t explain. Sarah had a similar moment when we tested her VO₂ Max and saw she was hitting sugar-burning mode far too early in workouts. Her body wasn’t broken—it was stressed beyond its limit.

These tests gave us the clarity to slow down, rebuild, and actually heal.

You’re Not Alone in This

Whether you’re dealing with Addison’s, adrenal dysregulation, or just feeling drained every day—you’re not crazy, lazy, or broken. You just need the right data, support, and a plan.

If you’re ready to take your next step:

Final Thoughts

Healing isn’t linear. But it is possible.
You don’t need to do everything perfectly—you just need to do it on purpose.
Your story isn’t over. In fact, this could be the beginning of your most powerful chapter yet.

We’re here for the journey. Let’s keep going—together.
