🚨 What Are Inherited Values—And Are They Blocking Your Progress?

A family member once told me, “Maybe your values just don’t align with ours.”
At first, I was furious. Defensive. Misunderstood.

But when the emotions settled, I had to ask a hard question:
Have I ever truly named my values?
Or have I just been living out the ones passed down to me — from family, culture, religion, or trauma?

That question sent me on a journey. One that changed everything: how I lead, how I parent, how I show up in my body and business.
Because here’s the truth:

If you never go looking for your best self, you’ll never find them.


🧭 What Are Core Values—Really?

Values aren’t about politics.
They’re not your job title, your body goals, or your productivity.

Values are the internal compass guiding your choices when no one is watching.

They shape how you:

  • Set boundaries

  • Respond to stress

  • Build relationships

  • Treat your body

  • Pursue success

If you don’t define your values, the world will do it for you.


🧬 Inherited vs. Chosen Values: What’s Really Driving You?

So many of us are carrying inherited beliefs we never questioned. Things like:

From Family:

  • “Don’t outshine others”

  • “Hard work = suffering”

  • “Rest is laziness”

From Religion:

  • “Your needs come last”

  • “Success is selfish”

From Culture:

  • “Productivity = worth”

  • “Beauty = value”

  • “Men don’t cry / Women must sacrifice”

These messages shape our behaviors, our weight loss journeys, our relationships — everything.

But here’s the thing:

You weren’t meant to just survive. You’re here to become.


🌟 7 Core Values That Anchor My Life

After deep reflection (and walking through The Blueprint Method), I uncovered the 7 values that now guide my life:

  1. 🌱 Growth – Progress over perfection.

  2. 🛡️ Integrity – Doing what’s right, not what’s easy.

  3. 🕊️ Peace – Space for clarity, not just the absence of chaos.

  4. 🎨 Creativity – Expression, problem-solving, aliveness.

  5. 🧠 Wisdom – Depth over impulse.

  6. 🔥 Passion – Purpose-driven fire to keep showing up.

  7. 💛 (Optional for blog) – [Insert any additional value if needed or leave at six.]

These aren’t ideals I admire. They’re how I live. And they help me recalibrate when life feels noisy or uncertain.


💭 Ask Yourself:

  • What values are actually driving my life?

  • Were they inherited… or consciously chosen?

  • Do they align with the life I’m trying to build?

You don’t need to live by 30 values. Just the few that truly anchor you.


✨ Begin Your Own Values Discovery

Try this:

  1. Read a list of common values: [Authenticity, Growth, Compassion, Loyalty, Simplicity, Joy, Freedom…]

  2. Write down the 3–7 that light something up inside you.

  3. Ask: Am I living these? Or just aspiring to them?

You’re not here to fit into someone else’s box.
You’re here to become the truest version of you.
